The Foundation

In order to pay a lasting and befitting tribute to and carry forward and immortalize the vision and foresight of this leader in the field of medicine and surgery, the Raj Vir Singh Yadav Foundation was established in July 2006 to intervene in the propagation and conduct of medical-cum-scientific education, awareness, research and practice. The Foundation also seeks to intervene in activities pertaining to providing socio-economic assistance, development and the general welfare-cum-empowerment of the rural sector in India.

The initial 3 years that the Foundation has been in existence have proven to be extremely encouraging and positive and make up for what will be remembered as an energetic and dynamic initiation period for the Foundation. Some of the programs, project collaborations and initiatives the Foundation partnered in include:

  • India’s first 24 hours Hepatitis Desk. The Hepatitis Desk was setup in collaboration with the Indraprastha Apollo Group of Hospitals, New Delhi and CLASP (Children’s Liver Disease Awareness and Support Programme). The help line of the Desk educated members of society at large on the causes, steps for prevention, treatment and other critical aspects in respect of viral hepatitis, a life consuming disease that attacks the human liver and is increasingly spreading across the nation at an alarming rate. It was launched on the occasion of Hepatitis Day on 4 December 2006. Every year since the Foundation takes part in Hepatitis Day celebrations with numerous medical professionals, educationists, academicians and children participating in the event.
  • Cardiac Health Clinics are set up in the rural socio-economically deprived far flung areas of NCR and U.P. in association with the Metro Group of Hospitals, Noida. Teams of medical professionals from Metro takes exceptional interest in these fully equipped clinics which are provided free of cost to those being registered and screened. These clinics at last count had screened more than 10,000 people.
  • Under the Rural Scholarship Disbursement Scheme commencing from 17 February 2007, the Foundation has disbursed merit-based scholarships in the form of certificates to the students of primary and secondary schools hailing from economically backward families in collaboration with the Akhil Bharat Rachanatmak Samaj, an all India-based non-governmental organization headed by Late Kumari Nirmala Deshpande, M.P. (Rajya Sabha), noted Gandhian, social worker and former Patron of the Foundation.
  • Orations: The Foundation organizes memorial orations in the memory of Professor Yadav every other year commencing Feb 2008. On 4 February 2008, the first Professor R.V.S. Yadav Memorial Oration titled "Legends of Transplantation" was organized in collaboration with the Indraprastha Apollo Group of Hospitals at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital auditorium. The Oration was delivered by Sir Peter J. Morris, AC FRS, and Head Centre for Evidence in Transplantation, Royal College of Surgeons of England, former President of the Royal College of Surgeons. About 200 specialist consultants, paramedics and technical staff and guests comprising representatives from industry, architecture, the law, the civil services, the parliament and other distinguished people participated in the Oration. The Oration was telecast on Doordarshan apart from receiving several accolades and other coverage.
  • The Foundation has established with effect from 1 July 2009, a memorial school in one of the far flung districts of U.P. This school in its first month itself has secured one hundred children who have enrolled and registered as students – this has been the result of persistent pre-launch work undertaken to inform people about the vision of the Foundation and how it aims to provide education at par with that provided in cities to the remote areas of the country. The Foundation expects to enroll two hundred children by the end of the current academic year. The school administers classes presently up to the middle level. Going forward, the Foundation aims to introduce higher levels of classes in the school and has commenced steps in that direction already expanding the initial infrastructure it created for the launch. Computer literacy is also on our list as one of the disciplines to be initiated in the school. The Foundation aims to serve selflessly the people of this village and adjoining areas as a starting test case to make a real difference to the development and welfare of the area in terms of education, advising on infrastructure, basic facilities, health and cleaning etc. A team of able school administrators manage the school and have been instrumental in spreading the message.

We are continuously in talks and discussions with like minded organizations and institutions to assess how we can work together and collaborate with a view to work mutually for the improvement and upliftment of the socio economically deprived and other backward neglected sections of the country.

We are working towards establishing a community centre where multiple community activities can take place. This is a 2010 project, the blueprint of which (including land acquisition, permissions, registration, etc.) we are still working on.

4th Feb 2010 is the scheduled date for the second Professor R.V.S. Yadav Memorial Oration to be held at the AIIMS Jawaharlal Nehru auditorium. Eminent transplant surgeons and nephrologists and several other medical and non medical professionals and consultants are expected to gather for the event. India’s senior most nephrologist Professor Kirpal Singh Chugh has accepted the invitation to deliver the Oration. Some eminent partners of the Foundation who will be partnering with us on the Oration include AIIMS, the Apollo Group of Hospitals, Frames 24, the Metro Group of Hospitals, Earth Matters Foundation and Transparency International. A biographical documentary film on the life of Prof. Yadav will also be screened on the day and subsequently telecast on Doordarshan.

We are a non-profit non government organization whose primary objective is to seriously help and educate people to assist in eradicating the numerous challenges that they encounter and to assist in developing young minds. We aim to make our contribution towards uplifting villages in order to get them to respectable levels of growth as and where required.
